The first thing a person has to do to beat Type 2 Diabetes is the simplest but often overlooked concept. Set YOUR OWN GOAL.
Below is an image from the CDC which is “their” idea of what Normal, Prediabetic and Type 2 Diabetic parameters are. Look at the numbers for a minute or two.

I was 10.9% at my time of diagnosis.
Nearly double the 5.6% they consider “normal”. Nearly TRIPLE the blood sugar levels of the people that live the longest. They are about 4.3%.
You need to set a goal. You want to be “non-diabetic”? Then you need to get as far below 5.7% as you possibly can.
And you need to do this with the least amount of medication as possible- because it has been proved that using heavy anti-diabetic meds to force excess sugar into cells will bring about an early death.
“Early cessation of the intensive glycemic treatment arm of the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) trial because of a 22% excess of all-cause mortality compared with the standard arm (1) came as an unpleasant surprise to many observers“.
22% more people died (in this very large scale study) because they tried to “Mildly” reduce their blood glucose levels using insulin and insulin and other drugs. The scientists and doctors that are puzzled by this are trying to call it “chance”. LOL.
If you want to beat diabetes- you have to lower your blood sugar far more intensively that they did in this trial- and you must do so without drugs.
I stand nearly alone in stating this fact- Type 2 Diabetes is merely the reaction of the body (with champion genetics, not inferior ones) to “fatty-fat” and excessive amounts of ectopic fat deposition in other organs and arteries.
The accord study proves that forcing excess energy into cells cause exponentially faster cell damage, and thus organ damage, and thus premature death.
Yet, because those in medicine are taught that diabetes is a disease of poor genetics- and they know little if anything about ectopic adiposity- or adiposopathy- they believe, somehow, that perpetuating the use of force (insulin and other heavy-duty drugs) is the proper way to treat the disease.
This is precisely why the people in medicine have never cured or even healed- or even halted the progression of diabetes since they erroneously started using insulin to override the body’s attempt to clear the fatty-fat and the fatty organs and arteries.
USING MANY ANTI-DIABETIC MEDS and Insulin has always done more harm than good for those of us with Type 2 Diabetes- UNLESS the diabetic has allowed his high blood sugar to damage the Pancreas so extensively that he can no longer secrete a normal amount of insulin.
Are there some “good” drugs for diabetes? Absolutely. Metformin. But it is NOT strong enough to solve the problem by itself. If the diabetic continues to bombard his body with highly processed carbs, excessive natural carbs, and inferior fat and protein sources- Metformin will never be enough.
So for today. Pick a goal. Without using insulin and heavy medications.
My original goal was 5.6% in a year. And I easily made that happen.
If I can do it, you can, too.
By the way- I will NEVER, EVER have a fasting glucose tolerance test.
There are far safer and better ways to test one’s ability to tolerate glucose post-diabetic diagnosis.
