Tick-Tock, Mr. Diabetic

The goal of normoglycemia (normal blood sugar levels) is the correct goal. In the last post we discussed how we become diabetic- and most certainly I did not go deep enough to satisfy some people. I gave the short version of the truth- and had to do so, because I could study and write about this science for the rest of my life. Which will not help YOU today.

Add into the fact- I did not want to do this for a vocation.

MY ASS IS ON THE LINE.

My life is on the line here- and now that I have diminished the diabetes- and my fat cells are slowly healing- my ability to have lower blood sugar levels with less work is increased.

Last night I went to the gym. Instead of researching and attempting to clarify more science. Personally, I need to get some more movement in.

So I went on the treadmill- at various speeds and heights, for 34 minutes plus a 5 minute cool down. Then I went on the bicycle with various tension levels for 20 minutes. Then I went into the red light therapy machine for 12 minutes. It shakes the hell out of the body and bombards it with red light- which is purported to increase mitochondrial health.

I spend an inordinate amount of time researching, fact checking and looking for obscure truths hidden in obscure academic studies. Valuable time. time is the most important commodity in my life.

Not time to make money. Not time to worry about bills, income or any of that stuff. I have minimized my needs and increased my income by buying a small business and converting it from a money losing venture into a small profit center that does not need much of my time.

That is what allows me the time to write here. It allowed me the time to learn all of the medical terms, learn what drugs I should or should not use- etcetera.

Still- i do not sleep enough- and sleep is instrumental in allowing the body to heal.

I ate some carbs yesterday- not too many- but more than usual- because I ate some meatballs. Processed meatballs with processed tomato sauce. Bad carbs and worse fats. minimal nutrition- but I had a heaping plate of roasted vegetables on the side- to provide me with nutrients and fiber- to offset the junk meatballs.

My blood sugar post exercise was 93.

10 points from the 83 that is “the healthiest”.

I did not hit the gym hard. A barely broke a sweat. But I did, in fact sweat.

I ate some walnuts before bed and took a low dose melatonin pill to aid my sleep.

I chewed some “sugar-free” gum today- and have not consumed anything else besides water and a zero gatorade. Why must I be compelled to tell you these things?

The sugar-free gum has carbs- instant carbs- my blood sugar a few minutes after chewing a few pieces of gum?

27 points higher than when I went to sleep.

These numbers are higher than they need to be- because I am not as metabolically healthy-as I would like to be- scratch that- I am not as metabolically healthy as I need to be.

Getting my blood sugar levels to be in the range they deem normal is a great place to start, when one compares 5.6% to 10.9%.

The point of this post- is to let you know that it is going to take a long time for a diabetic to reverse his condition- because he has had significant metabolic damage done on a significant number of cells. The body cannot keep up with the hits it is taking.

A valid point- that NEEDS to be made.

I am 56 years old. My lifestyle changes have made me feel decades younger.

Now is the time for me to regain the skeletal muscle that diabetes has sloughed off of me. And since I feel better- this task is not going to be as painful as it would have been 5 years ago.

The longer you allow the disease to perpetuate, the longer it will take for you to recover. Perpetuating abnormally high blood sugars- even though you will start to feel better- is not a good idea.

The conversation should turn from here to re-adjusting the goals to meet what your body is trying to do.
